It seems that this year will be big for football fans and lotto players. The Florida Lottery and the Miami Dolphins announced on Monday October 3rd that they had joined forces to give South Florida Lottery players a one in a lifetime chance to win great prizes in the Dolphins in-tastic Fantasy 5 Football Promotion.

Five Dolphins Fin-tastic Fantasy 5 Football drawings will be held from October 12 to December 7, 2011. The drawings will include all the vouchers entered by midnight on the night before each drawing. In each of the five drawings, two players will win tickets to the Dolphins vs. Jets final season game on January 1, 2012.
According to Tennessee lottery CEO Rebecca Hargrove, “The entire industry is looking for ways to crack what we would call the big-box store. That’s where we believe the big growth will come. But we are doing a whole range of things that combined have allowed us to move beyond industry growth, and we’ll continue to do that.”
To boost the lottery sales is actually a trend that other states are pursuing. According to David G. Schwartz, director of the center for gaming research at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, In the economic climate today, nobody wants to raise taxes and people don’t really want to cut revenues, so if running a deficit, it’s easy to turn your thoughts to increasing lottery revenues”.
And this is exactly what Tennessee Lottery is doing, in spite of its huge success and amazing revenue, it is still $22 million short in the scholarship money that the lottery is meant to fund. It is not the lottery’s fault, rather it is because the lawmakers have expanded the categories of students eligible for the $4,000 scholarships which stretches the original budget to pay for more types of scholarships than it was intended originally.
The state senators have suggested that the lottery can boost ticket sales in order to close the gap instead of cutting the scholarships.
